Lesson Structure and Levels

Our lesson plans are designed to be fun and interactive.  Water safety and survival skills are taught in the most effective way.

Every child is different and will learn at their own pace. Students will receive a certificate on completion of each level outlining the competencies they have achieved.

Tadpoles

Level 1

• Parents have learnt safe entries and exits with their children

• Has been introduced to breath control

• Child is comfortable with splashing and water over their face

• Learning to kick and paddle

• Learning to float on their back

• Interacting in the water and having a splash of a time

Level 2

• Waits for permission to enter the water

• Will hold breath on cue/submerge in the water

• Comfortable with aided back floating

• Learning horizontal rotation

• Will kick and paddle when asked/independently

• Has been introduced to floatation devices

• Relaxed and comfortable in the water

Level 3

• Can enter the water safely/ independently

• Is comfortable with staying on the step away from parent

• Can back float aided/unaided

• Beginning to self rotate in the water

• Learning vertical rotation

• Gaining propulsion from kicks/paddles

• Can push and glide between parent and wall

• Confident and loving water play

Froglets

Level 1

• Waits for permission before entering the pool

• Learning breath control

• Can back float aided/unaided

• Is confident in and around water

• Can kick/paddle when asked/independently

• Can push and glide between instructor and wall

• Can slide/jump in aided/unaided

• Showing safe behaviour in and around the pool

• Is classed as a non-independent swimmer and needs parents aid in the water, constant supervision

Level 2

• Has learnt breath control when submerged

• Can/learning to roll over to float aided/unaided

• Can push and glide for 3m

• Flutter kick has propulsion

• Developing over arm action (freestyle arms)

• Can slide/jump into the water, learning to get back to safety

• Can/learning to recover from a full submersion

• Demonstrates safe behaviour around water

• Classed as a confident non-independent swimmer and needs parents aid in the water

Level 3

• Is learning to turn their head to the side to breath aided/unaided with kickboard

• Can swim 4m on back aided/unaided

• Confidently swims 4m using a straight arm stroke

• Can roll over and float unaided

• Can roll over from a back float

• Can slide/jump in to the pool and get back to safety

• Can recover from a full submersion

• Understands basic water safety

• Classed as a non-independent swimmer and needs parents in the water

Level 4

• Learning to bi-lateral breath unaided

• Can confidently swim 10m with over arm stroke

• Can confidently swim 10m on their back

• Learning to use arm strokes on their back

• Can self propel to the bottom of the pool and recover

• Learning to tread water for ☐ seconds aided/unaided

• Developing survival skills and knows how to call for help

• Learning how to aid others who need rescuing or help

• Is classed as an independent swimmer in a pool environment but needs constant parent supervision

Frogs

Level 1: Stroke correction and introduction to breaststroke

• Swimming confidently for 20m using freestyle and/or backstroke

• Learning different leg propulsion – breaststroke and butterfly kicks

• Learning different arm strokes – breaststroke pull

• Learning a safe dive in entry

• Can tread water for ☐ seconds

• Learning how to use survival backstroke

• Has practiced a reach and rescue

• Can swim 50m with no aids

• Classed as an independent swimmer in a pool environment but should always be supervised

Level 2: Preparation for squad training and introduction to butterfly

• Has been doing stroke correction in freestyle and backstroke

• Learning the skill of breaststroke

• Learning a different arm stroke – butterfly pull

• Can confidently swim 50m and is suitable to join to a squad

• Can tread water for ☐ seconds

• Can confidently use survival backstroke

• Learning side stroke

• Has swam 100m using survival techniques

• Demonstrating sound knowledge of water safety 

• Classed as a confident swimmer in a pool environment

Level 3: Stroke correction to advance techniques, complimenting squad training

• Has been doing stroke correction for freestyle focusing on 

• Has been doing stroke correction for backstroke focusing on 

• Has been doing stroke correction for breaststroke focusing on 

• Has been doing stroke correction for butterfly focusing on 

• Can tread water for ☐ seconds 

• Can back float

• Clothed swim 100m

• Demonstrate survival strokes
